 Road Out of Winter - First Impressions

Road Out of Winter was a book on the list that almost completely took my interest. The description was super interesting to me when I first read it! It's fiction, the "permanent state of winter" setting is cool, there's a lot of danger, and she can somehow still grow plants. It honestly sounds like some sort of video game. I have played games with themes like this as well, so I knew that I had to read it and give it a try.

I am not too far into the book yet, but it's definitely different. I really like how much dialogue there is so far, and I feel like the author is descriptive enough so that I can paint the whole scene in my head (which I love). There are some characters that have been named, but I am not exactly sure who they are, and/or if they are important. I hope to see soon the connections that Wil (the main character) has with these characters, and others that come up. I am excited to really get into it.

Where I'm From?  I'm an East Coast girl! Specifically, I am in the southern part of New Jersey, and I am literally 10 minutes away from Philly across a bridge. I could probably walk there if I wanted to. Philly > my hometown for sure though. All the Young Men  - Final Thoughts Book's Plot I'll try not to give too much away, but  All the Young Men  is a true story that is focused on Ruth Coker Burks, the author herself. A mother living in Arkansas during the 1980's, Ruth became a beacon of light through her actions and kindness towards gay men whom were dying from AIDS. At the time, other people (even nurses) were too scared to help these men because they thought they would get infected with AIDS themselves. However, as a Christian, Ruth put all of her fears aside to care for them. Eventually, she becomes well-known in the area as the person that will aid these men until they pass. Aside from that, she helps drag queens, searches through funeral homes for their bodies, and even chats with her friend Bill Clinton. Overall, this book takes us on a journey through what Ruth went through as a young adult. Hair Braiding

For the past three days, I have been doing nothing but braiding my hair. It is quite the intricate process. This time specifically, I am trying to do a hairstyle called "box braids," and it definitely has been time consuming. The process is as follows: I wash my hair, making sure to shampoo and condition it well. Soon after, I'll add a protein treatment as well as a deep conditioner on my hair to make sure it is strong and moisturized. After washing those out, I'll safely blow dry my hair straight to make it easier to braid with. Finally, I can actually start the braiding process by adding additional hair to my real hair. For professional braiders, this is something that can be achieved in 8 hours max. However, for a newbie like myself, this has taken nearly half a week. This is not only due to my own laziness, but the process is just very long in itself. However, for people with coily hair like mine, hairstyles like this can be very protective for our hair.
