RANDOM Post 2

I can't think of anything else to write, so I thought to just reflect on my college experience and how I am going to be graduating next month. It is crazy that I am this close to the finish line, especially because I literally remember my first day of college (which happened almost 4 years ago). I am actually a transfer student from a different school on the East Coast, so it stinks that I wasn't at USC the whole time, but on the other hand, I am really glad to have learned more about myself from the experiences at my other college. For example, if I didn't transfer, I would still probably be dying as a pre-med student and suffocating in subjects like physics.

Then, as I think about my classes, it's funny to me that my first semester and last semester of college have been the hardest for me. At my old school, I was taking Intensive Chemistry and Intensive Mandarin at the same time during my first semester. I was actually insane for doing that, and to be honest, I am not sure how I survived. And then right now, I am taking a neuroscience course which is debatably the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. It's supposed to be for undergraduates, and I feel like I am an older medical student. The diagrams I see and the terminology my professor uses literally blows my mind every week.

Finally, as I think about myself, I am really glad to have grown into the person I am today. I have this newfound confidence in me that I never thought I would ever have. And to be honest, I am not sure where it even came from, but I guess it comes with maturing and learning to do your own thing. A big resolution I had for myself this year was to also love myself more, and I am really happy that I am achieving that. I am super proud that I made it through college, especially as a first-gen low-income student. So that being said, even though it's crazy how fast time flew, I am excited to walk next month and represent my family and culture.

  1. Hi Angelica,

OMG! Graduating seems so scary, but I know that I'll be in your shoes pretty soon (I'm a freshman). I'm happy to hear that you are proud of the progress that you have made and your personal growth journey. Are you afraid to enter into the real adult world? It seems hard to imagine a life where you aren't in school and have to follow a strict routine. I am excited for you to see your family cheering you on next month <3

  2. Hi Angelica,
I really enjoyed your post. I really think it is most important to look at how you have grown as a person over college. I also do think it is cool that you got to experience a little bit of college on each coast! I am very excited for my graduation next year, but it does feel crazy that is coming so fast.

  3. Great post, thanks for sharing Angelica. I think it's great that you were able to truly find yourself at USC. I'm sure transferring schools like that and going all the way across the country can seem like a daunting task but I'm happy to hear that everything has worked out well. I am only a junior but I can relate to how fast time flies in college. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was going to class for the first time and now I'm almost a senior-- kind of scary. Congratulations on graduating; I am sure you will continue to make your family and culture proud with whatever you do next.

  4. Hi Angelica,

This is an awesome post and absolutely congratulations for growing into the woman you are and representing your family this May as you graduate. I saw your comment on my post and wanted to read yours. I love how you reflected, and I actually feel like if I can also reflect back on my time throughout college I will appreciate it ending more. I would love to hear what you are doing after you graduate!

    Cheers,
    Zoë

  5. Hi Angelica,

I am so stoked that you have a new found level of confidence! You GO girl! I can relate... my first semester at USC I decided to take Calculus and three really difficult GEs. To say the least, it exhausted me and I do not know how I got through it (like you said haha). I hope my last semester is not as hard as that one was! Thanks for sharing.

  6. Hi Angelica,

Congratulations on graduating soon! I'm only a freshman, so I love reading how being a senior feels like. Although since I'm in WBB, I feel like a freshman senior. Also as a first-gen low income student, this post is so motivating for me to keep on trying to get through college. I hope you have a great graduation celebration with your family!

    Best,

    Lesley
