World We Imagine - Part 3

Keep Up the Kindness Movement - #passiton One of the things I value most in people is kindness and everything related to kindness (empathy, compassion, etc.). I feel as though that trait is one that can truly make the world go round. That being said, I would love to create a movement where the primary goal is do kind things for one another, and continuously pass that kindness on. I've seen social media videos where someone buys a fast food meal for the person behind them, then that person does the same, and then the chain keeps going; I would love for my movement to have a similar style. Not just for fast food of course, but for anything kind, whether it is helping someone cross the street, or just letting a stranger rant to you about what they're going through. My mission of the Keep Up the Kindness Movement is to continue kindness and just pass it on to others. My organization is unique because these acts of kindness will be performed on a global scale, both in real life and ...

World We Imagine Part 1

I am glad that for this first part of the assignment, we can free write and not limit ourselves to just one out of many ideas that could make the world a better place. When I finally looked at the notes that I was jotting down throughout the week, I noticed that they all have a similar theme of people being physically and mentally connected to each other as well as nature. For example, I started writing notes about performing acts of kindness for other people and showing basic empathy. It would be cool to see some sort of Pay it Forward movement where one person does something nice, then the next person does something, and the cycle continues where everyone just does nice things for one another. Then, I started writing a little more about the 60's and what the people in that era remind me of. I thought of physical connection like hand holding, hugging, dancing, and singing. These are different ways that seem to bond people from a bunch of different backgrounds. A kinder world would...

RANDOM Post 2

I can't think of anything else to write, so I thought to just reflect on my college experience and how I am going to be graduating next month. It is crazy that I am this close to the finish line, especially because I literally remember my first day of college (which happened almost 4 years ago). I am actually a transfer student from a different school on the East Coast, so it stinks that I wasn't at USC the whole time, but on the other hand, I am really glad to have learned more about myself from the experiences at my other college. For example, if I didn't transfer, I would still probably be dying as a pre-med student and suffocating in subjects like physics. Then, as I think about my classes, it's funny to me that my first semester and last semester of college have been the hardest for me. At my old school, I was taking Intensive Chemistry and Intensive Mandarin at the same time during my first semester. I was actually insane for doing that, and to be honest, I am not...

Book 2 Post 2

I will be honest and say that I did not get into Road Out of Winter  as much as I wanted to. It didn't pull me in much, and I can definitely say that the plot is completely different from what I thought it was going to be. From reading the summary, I thought I was going to be whisked away into a magical world where the main character genuinely has solar powers, and she was going to use them to save her post-apocalyptic world. However, I have not read a single thing yet about Wil (the protagonist) having powers. It seems like the soils/seeds she gardens with are magical instead. I thought it was going to take place in a fictional world as well, but the characters are actually based in Ohio. In general, I just had so many different expectations with this novel, but none of them have really been met, and the plot doesn't really interest me anymore. However, I will say that I love the writing style, which makes me want to keep going. It is SUPER easy to understand what is going on ...

Book 2 Post 1

Road Out of Winter - First Impressions Road Out of Winter  was a book on the list that almost completely took my interest. The description was super interesting to me when I first read it! It's fiction, the "permanent state of winter" setting is cool, there's a lot of danger, and she can somehow still grow plants. It honestly sounds like some sort of video game. I have played games with themes like this as well, so I knew that I had to read it and give it a try. I am not too far into the book yet, but it's definitely different. I really like how much dialogue there is so far, and I feel like the author is descriptive enough so that I can paint the whole scene in my head (which I love). There are some characters that have been named, but I am not exactly sure who they are, and/or if they are important. I hope to see soon the connections that Wil (the main character) has with these characters, and others that come up. I am excited to really get into it.

Hair Braiding

Image
For the past three days, I have been doing nothing but braiding my hair. It is quite the intricate process. This time specifically, I am trying to do a hairstyle called "box braids," and it definitely has been time consuming. The process is as follows: I wash my hair, making sure to shampoo and condition it well. Soon after, I'll add a protein treatment as well as a deep conditioner on my hair to make sure it is strong and moisturized. After washing those out, I'll safely blow dry my hair straight to make it easier to braid with. Finally, I can actually start the braiding process by adding additional hair to my real hair. For professional braiders, this is something that can be achieved in 8 hours max. However, for a newbie like myself, this has taken nearly half a week. This is not only due to my own laziness, but the process is just very long in itself. However, for people with coily hair like mine, hairstyles like this can be very protective for our hair. Curly/coi...
